We made it to lycra heaven

OK, so after much laughter in the office, we have decided that it just isn't fair to keep this only for the amusement of the senior staff at MGA. It's time we shared the joy and the magic that happens when the students of MGA find themselves with a day to spare.

Sometimes Fame and Fortune require you to dress up in lycra... with hilarious results.

A busy end to a busy year

We don't hide from hard work here at The MGA Academy, and all our students have been working their socks off, cramming as much performance as possible into the last little bit of 2011!

mga sing lesson

The MGA Singers have just completed a hugely successful season of appearances. The folks of Edinburgh have been well entertained at Festive lunches, Edinburgh Airport, Murrayfield Stadium (Edinburgh vs Cardiff game) and the Festival Theatre. They also gave up an evening to support Barnardos by singing a moving set of songs at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh at the Charity's annual fundraising dinner. We've had positive comments flooding in, and are already lining up more appearances for next year. Huge congratulations to all the Singers - we are very proud of you.

Three of our full-time students were offered parts in QDOS Entertainment's panto at Edinburgh King's Theatre.

2nd year full-time student Patrick Hornig has flown out to Germany to start an internship with World Wide Events as Assistant Chooreographer for their European tour. (Yet another priceless opportunity for our students at The MGA Academy!)

Also in Germany - third-year student Stefanie Meikle was selected to join the international cast of World Wide Events latest tour, Musical Starnights. What a great way to launch yet another professional career. Congratulations!

Several wonderful guest tutors have dropped by this month, sharing their expertise and experiences with our lucky students: the fabulous Drew Baker (who brought us two great days of Gilbert & Sullivan workshops) and Natalie Weiss & Andrew Hodge, to name but a few. In fact it's been a great year for our students with so many amazing visiting professionals (not forgetting MGA Brighton's 'starry' support in September).

Rehearsals for CHILDREN OF EDEN began - find out more about this special benefit performance we have been invited to participate in at their website.

So roll on 2012! We can't wait!!

A strong start for Brighton

Brighton students with Matthew Bourne

MGA Academy Brighton has kicked off their first term in style!

You know that your doing something right when your Company Brand, Ethos, Professional Conduct and the calibre of associated staff and consultants means that a new school in Brighton, set up by four of the country's most successful professional performers, has already attracted Stephen Mear and Matthew Bourne (above) as guests, with Adam Cooper on his way. Huge congratulations to the four Brighton Principals - your school is clearly going to be a force to be reckoned with! -- Andrew Gowland

The MGA Academy Brighton has now opened its doors to their first class of Full-Time students. With a lovely studio base in Hove, they are sure to benefit from all the industry experience their talented Principals can offer! Find out more about the Brighton Principals by clicking here to our new Principals page.

They are sure to be an asset to The MGA family. Here's what they have to say about their brand new Academy centre:

brighton_school

We strongly believe that the only qualifications a student should have for being able to train in Performing Arts is the passion to perform and the mentality to work incredibly hard every day. A willing student's financial situation should never be a reason why they can't fulfil their promise and evolve into the performer that they were meant to be.

With the cost of college tuition rising across the board and government grants becoming a more endangered species year by year, it is up to colleges themselves to offer in-house scholarships to a few students deemed to have the potential to warrant one.

At MGA we work differently. Even though two of our Principals were lucky enough to be granted such a scholarship when they were training, we are only too aware that so many more students slip through the net. This is why instead of handing out free training to a select handful of students every year we have decided to make our tuition fees affordable for every student that wants to train with us. In fact, we believe that it is entirely possible for a student with no financial support to be able to train during the day at The MGA Academy and still make enough money of an evening to put themselves through college. Such is the extent of the difference we charge in our fees compared to other institutions.

If that's not exciting enough for you, then check out what their new Patron, Mr Stephen Mear, has to say:

patron_mear

I am honoured to be a patron of The MGA Academy. Brighton thrives on the Arts industry, the location is wonderfully diverse and feeds the Arts community between there and London. It seems only fitting that Brighton itself be given its own Academy which will be populated with four well-respected, hard-working Principals along with some tremendously talented teachers. The Academy’s philosophy of making the fees more affordable makes it possible for all students interested in Performing Arts to have a better chance of fulfilling their dreams. -- Stephen Mear, Choreographer & Director

Brighton is currently offering MGA Full-Time school courses - Pre-vocational Year and 3-yr Professional Diploma. For more information about studying with MGA in Brighton visit our Brighton page and the student life page. Contact information is available on our contact page. And don't forget, you can get all our MGA news as it happens over on Facebook.
