Degree courses start Sept 2018
We are thrilled to be bringing to MGA – and to Edinburgh – three fully-comprehensive BA (Hons) degrees* in Musical Theatre, Acting and Dance Performance from September 2018!
In collaboration with Bath Spa University, MGA undergraduate courses will be offered in the form of three degrees. Last year, MGA became the first full-time professional training academy in Scotland to receive accreditation for its Dance and Musical Theatre courses by the CDET, the UK’s quality assurance and membership body for the professional dance, drama and musical theatre training industries.
From Drew Gowland, Co-founder and Managing Director of MGA:
“For more than a decade, we have been providing students with exceptional training on par with London’s leading dance and drama schools. We are thrilled to now announce that our students will now also receive academic recognition from Bath Spa University when they graduate. Our training has allowed our graduates to build successful, international careers on stage and screen and now they will also leave with a degree, enabling them to pursue professional teaching work and postgraduate level study.”
“We will also be offering top-up courses and degrees for those who have already gained HNC and HND qualifications in Acting, Musical Theatre or Dance and are looking forward to welcoming students from schools across the UK and Europe. MGA keeps fees as low as possible in order to appeal to a broad range of prospective students while also maintaining the high quality of staff and tutors who teach here.”
Mark Langley, Head of Music and Performance at Bath Spa, welcomes this new partnership.
“Our aim is always to work with great partners who help us improve and develop our network across the UK. To have such an exciting partner in Scotland is great news for us and for all of the potential students who can get top-quality training for the west end and beyond. We are delighted to be working with MGA, and look forward to the possibilities ahead.”
So are you ready to go for it? And join us on this next step in the MGA story? Next auditions are in Edinburgh on Sunday 18 March and, for the first time ever, in Dublin on Sunday 25 March. There’s never been a better time to aim for your dream career!

Council for Dance Education and Training
The MGA Academy of Performing Arts is accredited by the CDET.
MGA is extremely proud to be Scotland’s first and only CDET-accredited Performing Arts school. CDET ensures the provision of high quality professional training through recognition and accreditation of full-time dance, drama and musical theatre schools and colleges, and has provided the industry benchmark of quality assurance for professional training in the UK since 1979.
MGA part-time school is a CDET-Recognised School, awarded the Council’s certificate of good professional practice. CDET schools are distinct from the large numbers of unregulated dance and drama schools operating throughout the country – they are committed to professional practice, safety and student wellbeing. The Recognised School mark demonstrates to students, parents, and guardians that they adhere to the standards demanded by the industry and standards designed to protect and safeguard young people whether dancing for leisure or with an eye to a career in the profession.
Scottish Qualifications Authority
The MGA Academy of Performing Arts is proud to be an SQA Approved Centre, as this recognises the Academy’s commitment to excellence in the training of young performing artists. MGA’s SQA-accredited HNC and HND courses not only guarantee students a practical performance-based training, but also a recognised academic qualification in their chosen field.
SQA is the national body in Scotland responsible for the development, accreditation, assessment and certification of qualifications other than degrees. Their overall aim is to manage the qualifications system below degree level to allow students to fulfil their potential to participate in the economy, society and communities of Scotland.
MGA is an approved centre for teacher training by ISTD – Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing – and our students now have the opportunity of gaining ISTD Teaching qualifications during their training.
*Subject to final approval. Students on the Dance Performance course will initially enrol on HND course before completing a one year top-up degree.
